MSC Sportsmen's show

By all early accounts the twelfth annual Sportmen's show was another great success. A good verity of venders selling guns, ammunition, hunting & fishing equipment, knives, and all kinds of stuff for an outdoor enthusiast were kept busy with a steady stream of customers.

Junior Sportsmen's Program 2010 - Photos

Our instructors were busy all season with a good turn out regularly for both archery and rifle. With a number of members giving additional assistance our young shooters got a lot of opportunities to learn and practice. The Juniors finished the season with a pizza and gun cleaning party.

Turkey shoot, September 12, 2010

Our annul Turkey shoot was held on September 12. Far from the best turkey shoot, what with the rainy weather, it still wasn't a total bust. With fewer than 35 guys shooting we still had 24 relays. We had, the .22 off hand at 25 yds, the luck shoot at 25 yds, pistol at 25 yds, shotgun slug at 50 yds, turkey head at about 35 yds (we moved it out this year to limit the damage to the backers and make it easier to count the holes), and high power rifle at 100 yds., both bench and off hand.

Although everybody had a great time a lot of effort is spent setting this event up and we need member participation to keep it going. Lloyd was the biggest winner with 5 turkeys, I'm pretty sure he was glad he came. We just need to convince the rest of the club to join in the fun.

Black Powder: Over the log shoot & Cartridge Match, July 17, 2010

Warm weather, good people and a lot of smoke made for a great day of shooting. An Over the log shoot was new to many of us but Rich made it easy to learn and we got to shooting quickly. We shot at 50 yards from a prone position resting the guns on a Log. After the over the Log match was done Michael got us all shooting black powder cartridge at 50, 75 and 100 yards. If you have never had the chance to shoot black powder before, this was an event for you.

Range Improvements July 10, 2009

Significant work was done to improve the 25 and 100 yard berms. Machinery was brought in and lots of dirt and rock was moved to make our 100 yard area a true 100 yards as well as wider and the 25 yard area is now at ground level. Additionally the food plot had more trees felled and wood cleared.

Garand/Militery Shoot, May 16 - Photos - Scores

The first Garand/Militery Shoot was held on Sunday May 16, and by all accounts went well. The weather was perfect and we had a good number of shooters to inaugurate this event. We did a 50 round reduced course plus sighters. It consisted of 4 matches at 100 yards, slow fire offhand, rapid fire sitting, rapid fire prone, and slow fire prone. Scores were tracked for each match plus a final aggregate Match. Besides Garand’s we had a few shooters with bolt action guns giving it their all.

Muzzleloading Rifle Frolic , May 15, 2010

Great weather and a good turn-out made for another fun day of black powder shooting. Thirteen (13) challenging “novelty” targets tested the ten (10) shooters skills and luck. Shooting at a charcoal briquette hanging on a string and swinging in the wind at 25 yards is not something easily done, nor is splitting twine at the same distance. The overall best shooter was Rick Gray, followed by Bruce Breard in 2nd and our own Paul Brasky in 3rd. Rich was kind enough to supply several guns and supplies for the people new to Muzzle Loading and we thank him for his generosity. If you like shooting with Muzzle loaders or have never had the chance to do so before, this is an event for you. Visit our calendar page for details on future Muzzleloading events in July and September

The Range Elves have been busy

If you have not been to the range lately then when you do go you'll see that members have been busy. The range house was cleaned-up and organized. New gun racks have been built and installed as well as fresh paint and new rail caps on the fence. Also the 100 yard target rails were cleaned out and prepared for coming events.

Printed Newsletter.

In the near future we will start (snail) mailings a news letter to people that don't have, or check their email. Please make sure the club has your email so we only spend postage on those that need it.

Third Annual Scarawan Cup - Photos

The Third annual Scarawan cup began with each club having split the first two Cups, one apiece. The Match occurred on March 27, 2010 with 27 shooters present, 17 from MSC and 10 from Vly. The day was a bit chilly having been in the low twenties the night before and around freezing as we began our first relay, fortunately we had plenty of sun to take some of the chill away. The 27 shooters participated in 3 relays to determine the 5 best shooters from each club. Those five shooters participated in the match round with the final score of 226-02X to 207-02x (Vly). Paul Brasky had his hands full as the official scorer, but did an excellent job coming well prepared. Excellent shooting and lots of fun was had by all. To finish out the day all the shooters and guests joined together for lunch of Cheeseburger’s and hotdogs prepared by this years host MSC. We look forward to Vly hosting next year’s event.

“Thanks to all who participated today it was a huge success with everyone having a great time. Lots of positive comments from both club members. Congratulations to all the shooters and thanks again for such a wonderful event....... ”
